Ok…the first weekend of college football has officially come to an end. For any football fanatic, like myself, it was quite an entertaining weekend. Lots of games to watch, some closer than expected, some complete blowouts and some disappointing injuries. The first weekend of college football set the stage for some great competition to come. Here are some of my observations from this weekends games.
1. Biggest Surprise: Ohio St. vs. Navy. This game shouldn’t have been this close. It will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes fare the rest of the season. I haven’t bought the hype just yet.
2. Biggest Disappointment: ISU vs. Louisville. Louisville won the game against a team that was beaten by Quincy last weekend. The problem…UofL didn’t execute well on offense and the “D” was far from stellar. It all left a lot to be desired. Hard to believe in 2006 UofL played in the Orange Bowl and now can barely beat Indiana State.
3. Thumbs UP! For Tennessee and Coach Lane Kiffin. He finally got the Vols a blowout win they’ve been gunning for. His team looks much more polished and executes well. Big change from the Fulmer era!
4. Hardest moment to watch: Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford’s injury. I hate to see any athlete injured, especially a Heisman Trophy candidate. To add insult to injury..BYU went on to beat Oklahoma. Hopefully, the Sooners can bounce back and that Bradford will be ready to play again soon.
5. Team to watch…Arizona State! They could surprise some teams in the Pac-10 with the stellar defense they have put together. If the offense can be somewhat productive, the “D” is sure to hold up thier end of the bargain. This is a team sure to crack the Top 25 sometime this season.
I am truly looking forward to another great week of college football next weekend. Let me know your football plans!!!
