The last decade at Florida State Bobby Bowden has had his worst records as a whole. The big question right now is will he return in 2010? Kirk Herbstreit makes a great point that maybe a coach in waiting (Jimbo Fischer)could be hindering the program. A possibility that could be right. It is essentially like having two head coaches currently. While Bowden should still be in charge, maybe Fischer has had more input and it doesn’t work in Bowden’s system. Something to ponder, but essentially, the concept at FSU is one the provides the most stable transition for the team and the university. The talent is good at FSU so when Fischer does take over the team is stocked and he will not be rebuilding. If Bowden does return, Fischer should have some input on a new defensive coordinator so once Bowden leaves the continuity of the team and staff continue. After FSU’s loss yesterday to Florida Bowden said he had some soul searching to do. Today he said he would like to stayanother season at FSU. One thing is very obvious. Bowden ultimately may not be the one making the decisions, but his wife should probably keep her opinions to herself because I’m sure that administration doesn’t appreciate comments like these.
“If FSU doesn’t give it to him, she says, “You know, we don’t need the university as much as they need us — as much as they need him and his connections and reputation and everything. If they want to pull that trick, we’ll just shake the dirt off our feet and go to Europe or go on a long cruise or something.”

The crosstown rivalry, battle of LA or the crosstown showdown will be played tonight at 8pm between USC and UCLA. No particular name has stuck with this particular rivalry so it is referred to by several different names. What makes this in state rivalry so unique is that USC and UCLA are both located in the same city just 12 miles apart. These two teams first played in 1929 and the rivalry has become more and more heated as the years have progressed. From 1929-1981 these two schools actually shared the LA Coliseum as their home field but UCLA eventually moved to the Rose Bowl which is now their home field. The Victory Bell is awarded to the winner of the annual football game every year. The Victory Bell was originally from an old Southern Pacific railroad locomotive and was given to the UCLA student body by the UCLA Alumni Association in 1939. The bell symbolized victory to UCLA until it was stolen by the Trojan Knights, a USC organization, in 1941. After being hidden in various locations for over a year before resurfacing in a USC student magazine (known as the Wampus), a prank war between the two universities occurred until 1942, when the two schools student body presidents decided that the bell would be the trophy awarded the winner of the annual UCLA-USC football game. USC leads the series 42-48-7.
Who is leading the Heisman race Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy or CJ Spiller? Colt McCoy’s performance against Texas Tech was impressive and one should think it will put him at the top however, Tebow also always finds a way to make the play as well. Spiller’s performance was less impressive yesterday and will probably hurt his Heisman chances a little. One will have to wait and see, but it is clear that there are three amazing athletes at the top of the list.
The Holy War is the annual football rivalry between Utah and BYU. These two schools are located about fifty miles apart playing a big role in this rivalry. Religion also plays a big role as Utah is a state owned school making it secular and BYU is part of the Church of Latter Day Saints. In this rivalry it is common for BYU fans to refer to Utah fans as drunks or alcoholics. Some of those Utah fans are also part of the Church of Latter Day Saints, as well. The Utah fans that are non-Mormon will provoke BYU fans with swearing, drinking alcohol or coffee which all are not permitted by the BYU code of honor. It is also one of the oldest most heated rivalries in college football with Utah dating it back to 1896. The Utes currently lead the series 53-33-4.
